Wrong scheme for Marks Tey

This is extracted from a letter I have sent to Marks Tey Parish Council.

After reading the West Tey consortium website, one has to wonder who it is trying to impress with the details within the text and the arrogant disregard for what is currently a very happy community at Marks Tey.

I have extracted some of their comments and how they are trying to impress the layman: “New settlement at West Tey”. This is not a new settlement.

It will be bolted on to the western edge of the current village and Marks Tey will be quadrupled.

“Solution to congestion and delay along the A120”.

Access to the A120 from Marks Tey will be four times worse (if that is possible) unless the development has a direct access to the new link road to the A12. Even then, traffic travelling west to Braintree will again have four times the current problems until a full new duelled link road from Braintree to the A12 is developed.

“Good regional accessibility”.

We have this with the A12/A120 and by rail. A fully-duelled link from Braintree to the A12 would be the answer to our main accessibility problem, not a large development.

“Strong new communities that encourage the wellbeing of existing towns and villages” and “providing new jobs and homes is central to the success and sustainability of local towns and villages”. Marks Tey does not need a new community to swallow it up and our wellbeing is not a problem. We can get new jobs and homes on our doorstep... it’s called Colchester, as well as a short commute to London.

“Will also deliver new homes, new employment, and environmental enhancements”. We can get this in and surrounding Colchester.

“High quality green spaces”. We have them, it’s called countryside and footpaths, and these are natural and not in the middle of new developments.

I had to speak out on the nonsense being plied on the website.

The fact is this consortium of landowners is after money at the expense of Marks Tey as it stands today.

If they can persuade the county council and highways department with money for part of a new road, then there is something very wrong with the rules of our country.
