POLICE officers investigating the murder of James Attfield spoke to about 20 people during evidence-gathering patrols to mark the six-month anniversary of his death.

Uniformed officers and detectives carried out enquiries in Castle Park and the surrounding areas between 11pm last night and 6am this morning.

But Detective Chief Inspector Simon Werrett, who is leading the investigation, said no new information came to light.

He said: “Understandably people have changed their journeys since the murder and fewer people walk or cycle through the park and surrounding areas late at night.

“But it was a valuable experience for me and the team to tour the area again and to talk to the people who were out and about.

“Unfortunately no new information came to light but the people we spoke to were very supportive of our efforts.”

Father-off-five James Attfield, 33, was found with more than 100 stab wounds near Lower Castle Park just before 6am on Saturday, March 29.

He died shortly later at the scene.

On Thursday, police released CCTV of two people they want to speak to as part of their investigation.
