Highways boss says 'we will make Colchester road safer'
9:50am Saturday 20th October 2012 in News
NEW road markings will be put in Mersea Road in a bid to avoid motorists being confused as to which lane they should be in.
Essex County Council plans to alter the existing layout, near to the new Praecedo housing estate, at Roberts Road, following a number of complaints from motorists.
As a result of new markings, drivers have been confused which lane they should be in to go straight on.
Now highways bosses have pledged to make directions clearer.
An Essex County Council spokesman said: “An additional set of road markings will be introduced further back from the junction, giving queueing traffic more time to get into the correct lane.
“A new sign at the junction will also be installed.”
The work will be carried out soon but no target dates have been finalised.
Derrick Louis, Essex County Council cabinet Member for highways, said: “I am always willing to listen to the concerns of our residents, and we will now be taking the appropriate action to make these changes in road layout clearer for motorists.
“We will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that these improved markings are having the desired effect.”
Lyn Barton, borough councillors for Shrub End, said: “I am delighted that the council has recognised there is a problem.”

Billion £ Councils & County operations are making mistakes like this?
Surely not?
One would not dream of it.
The biggest single town centre residential development and the mess ups already start.
I wonder if they got the broadband sorted out as well?
