Hythe: Family's plea to save cafe

A FAMILY-RUN cafe is in danger of closing.
The Slade family is having to run the Hythe Station Cafe in Hythe Station Road on a voluntary basis as they cannot afford to take home a wage.
Rent increases, little passing trade and the area’s lack of renegeneration have all contributed to the cafe's demise.
Owner Terry Slade said the cafe, run from a cabin in a car park next to Hythe Station, could be forced to close within six months if problems continue.
He added: “A lot of people would be really upset to see this go. But the custom just hasn’t grown.
“At the moment we have got two months of electricity to pay for.
“Our rates to the council are £1,600. I know it sounds like we should just give in - but we don’t want to.”

Sad to hear any business is struggling, but location is everything. There´s not much passing traffic there. Taxis and buses. Anybody else going through has just done so illegally, and ain´t stopping for anything!

Hythe Station has a few people using it morning and evening, but I don´t think many do outside those peak times.

Not entirely sure how you get more people in there, to be honest. The main industrial bits are at the other end of Hawkins Rd and beyond, but could perhaps leaflet their workers.

Hope they manage to keep going somehow.
