FORMER police houses could be used to home a new medical centre in Wivenhoe.
Town councillors agreed to propose the site at 81-83 High Street to health bosses as an alternative to controversial plans for a doctors’ surgery at Cook’s Shipyard.
Wivenhoe Town Council, which owns the former Essex Police land and buildings, also said it would put forward an Essex County Council site in Philip Road which is earmarked for closure and the former Cedric’s bus company land opposite the Co-op store in The Avenue.
Mayor Penny Kraft told campaigners at a packed council meeting the decision was out of their control but councillors shared concerns.

A public meeting on the issue is being held from 7.30pm on October 30 at the William Loveless Hall, in the High Street.
