A MUM has visited Westminster to try and convince the Government to introduce a new law in memory of her daughter.

Jackie McCord presented 45,000 signatures to Road Safety Minister Stephen Hammond to call for Cassie's Law, backed by the Gazette and Essex County Standard.

Jackie launched her campaign after the death of her daughter, Cassie.

The 16-year-old student was mown down by driver Colin Horsfall as she stood on the pavement in Head Street, Colchester.

Three days earlier, police had appealed to Mr Horsfall to surrender his licence as they did not consider him fit to drive.

However, he refused and killed Cassie after losing control of his car.

Jackie is calling for a change in the law to allow police the right to temporarily seize a driver’s licence if they consider them
unfit to drive.

It would then be down to the DVLA to decide if the licence should be returned, or revoked.

Jackie I wish you all the luck in the world. I think you are an amazing woman and this tragedy could have been so easily avoided, it still really makes me so angry about the tragic loss of your daughter. God bless Cassie, rest in peace xxx
