A WOMAN aged 78 was left on the path with a fractured hip for 55 minutes waiting for an ambulance.
Audrey Carne fell in St John's Green, Colchester, and a passer-by came to her aid and called 999.
Ambulance crews were so busy it took nearly an hour for help to arrive - and the ambulance had to be sent from Ipswich.
Also in Monday's Gazette:
- Police used batons and fire extinguishers to keep four Staffordshire bull terriers, who had ripped a dog apart, at bay.
- A man with 62 previous convictions who threatened to shoot cops "like Raoul Moat" has been jailed for 15 months.
- The man in charge of Colchester's two NHS hospitals has ordered an investigation into complaints junior doctors don't dress smartly enough.
All this and more, including the new look Woman supplement in today's Gazette. Remember - there's always much more in the newspaper than online.
