Woman victim of distraction theft in Colchester's Culver Street
3:15pm Sunday 14th October 2012 in News By Helen Barnett
A WOMAN was the victim of a nasty scam when thieves distracted her to steal cash.
A 44-year-old was in Culver Street, Colchester, when a man and woman told her she had paint on her coat. They used the lie as a distraction so they could steal money from her bag.
The town centre theft happened on Friday, October 12, at around 3pm.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident and have issued a warning for shoppers to take care in the street.
A police spokesman said: "This is a nasty ruse to steal from people and we hope that by issuing this warning people will become alert if this happens to them.”
Anyone with information should call the Area Investigation team at Colchester on 101.
