Dutch and British runners take part in charity race

DUTCH runners travelled the North Sea to take part in a charity race.

The annual Discovery Run attracted nearly 250 runners to its 10km race and 5km Fun Run to pound the streets of Dovercourt.

Raising money for the Mayoress’s chosen charities as well as children’s cancer charity Clic, young and old endured the route on Saturday, October 13.

Now in its 14th year, the Discovery Run, named after former visiting ship Stena Discovery, took runners out of the Mayflower School gates and to the beach.

Started by Mayor of Harwich John Thurlow, the route headed from Main Road down to the Promenade and along the seafront to Harwich Beach, before heading to Dovercourt Pool in Wick Lane.

Robert Reason from Harwich Runners took the title for the 10km race finishing in 33.11. First lady was Becky McCorquodale, also from Harwich Runners, who finished her first race after injury in 42.07.

In the 5km Sam Matthews from Harwich Runners completed the race in 17.41 while Katie Ireland from Harwich Boot Camp took the women’s title in 21.04.
