FEW could walk down Colchester’s Crouch Street without wondering what has become of the iconic former Odeon cinema.

Saturday marks the tenth anniversary since it closed its doors for the last time.

At the time, few would have believed that fast forward a decade and a new use for the old Regal cinema would not have been found.

Owner Steve Peri put the art deco building on the market for £1.5 million back in March after finally admitting defeat in his efforts to turn it into a superclub.

Seven months on and while there has been plenty of interest from a range of would-be developers, nothing has been finalised.

Ewan Dodds, managing director of Whybrow, which is marketing the property, said those coming forwarded included those who wanted to redevelop the building, rather than knock it down.
