Coggeshall: Co-Op loses planning appeal

CO50804 - fleetshields A retailer's bid to build a village supermarket has been thrown out at appeal.
The East of England Co-operative Society appealed Braintree Council’s decision to refuse planning permission for a 5,000 sq ft shop in East Street, Coggeshall.
A planning inquiry was held in July.
Government-appointed inspector, Kay Sheffield, said the shop would not harm the retail vitality or viability of Coggeshall, living conditions of local residents or the character of the open countryside.
But she said this did not outweigh the harm to preserving or enhancing the character or appearance of the Coggeshall conservation area or the setting of nearby listed buildings.
