New developments 'could have to include CCTV'

NEW developments in Colchester could have to include CCTV, according to new council guidelines.

The move is part of Colchester Council’s plans for the future of the town.

Cameras will be particularly necessary in “mixed-use schemes”, which means new developments which include entertainment and leisure venues such as bars and takeaways, as well as those with open car parks.

Councillors are due to agree the plans tonight.

I don't think I'd like to live on any new development with an Orwellian presence. Smacks of inner city properties to me.

the problem is that cctv doesn't stop crime. Google it and see the stats. However it does become intrusive of your everyday life. The UK has the most CCTV per head of population anywhere in the world and yet we still have one of the highest crime rates in Europe.

Typical council press release, COULD have to include... so no change whatsoever from the current status quo. So why are tbe council wasting their time voting on it?

Is this a quote directly from the council publication, or the Gazette? One of the reasons they gave for raising the price of the Gazette was to pay for better journalism!
