New venue proposed for Wivenhoe's long-awaited medical centre

PLANS to build a long-awaited £1.5 million medical centre in Wivenhoe have been quietly shelved.

In February, NHS North Essex announced it had approved a bid from the Wivenhoe Surgery to build a new premises on Colchester Road, 15 years after it was first mooted.

But yesterday it emerged a deal could not be agreed with the landowner, raising fears that residents faced an even longer wait.

Instead, project managers Realise Health have reached an agreement with developer Taylor Wimpey to include a health centre in the ongoing redevelopment of Cook’s Shipyard.
