Councillors to have final say on takeaway plans

COUNCILLORS will have the final say on plans to convert a card shop into a fast-food takeaway.

Paul Smith, borough councillor for St John’s, has requested the proposals to alter Celebrations, in St Christopher Road, should not be decided by planning officers.

It will go before the Colchester Council planning committee next Wednesday, October 17.

Mr Smith said: “There have been 17 objections, so I think this is something which is causing some problems in the area and it is only right members should have their say.”

17 objections is in fact quite a substantial number. How many wrote in supporting the proposal? Probably very few.
It is the duty of the planning committee to consider all applications where there have been numerous objections.
.
I'm glad to say I don't live in St John's, which seems to be a rather unpleasant area, but it is a councillor's duty to represent his electors, which it seems he has done.
