SENIOR staff from a national baker’s chain painted a community centre hall on a Colchester estate.

Five area managers and one regional manager for the South East from Greggs pitched in to give part of the Greenstead Community Centre a new lick of paint.

The bosses were roped in by colleague Dawn Hammett, who is seconded to the community three days each week as a business connector.

Dawn said: “I thought it would be great for the team I work with on the other two days to see where I am working and get involved in the programme.
“It was a simple paint job the centre couldn't afford to do, but it meant just one day out of the day job for the Greggs team."

They look rather young to be "senior managers". Is that Greggs-speak for "shop assistant"? Oh no, it can't be, for it is the shop assistants who do the work.
Anyway, it looks as if they had a jolly time.

I'm afraid it's job title inflation - they are "managers" because they "manage" the job. But as you say, good to see they are diversifying their skills into painting and decorating.
