Bus driver cleared of assaulting autistic boy after appeal

A BUS driver found guilty of assaulting an autistic boy has spoken of his relief after his conviction was quashed.
Allan Ketley, of Collingwood Road, Lexden, had always denied the alleged attack in which it was claimed he pushed the 14-year-old into a bush in a lay-by.
But following a trial at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court in May, he was convicted of common assault.
He was handed a community order, paid £50 compensation to the victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, and £50 costs.
He was suspended from his job at Stanway Travel and eventually asked to leave.
However, Mr Ketley 63, appealed the conviction and following a re-trial a judge at Chelmsford Crown Court decided he should be cleared.

Well done Mr Ketley. Lets hope Stanway Travel reconsider their decision and they now reinstate him.

From this story its impossible for any of us to comment meaningfully but in the first instance a judge was happy to convict him for assaulting a disabled child.

Quashed or not, if its on his record no company that requires a CRB would employ him.

I am glad for Mr Ketley. What would the world be coming to if the driver of a vehicle, whose paramount concern is for the safety everyone aboard, is not allowed to keep some sort of discipline in his passengers?
