New McDonald's expected to be open by summer 2013

COLCHESTER’S fourth McDonald’s is scheduled to open next summer.

Bosses of the fast food restaurant were given planning permission in May to open a new franchise at junction 28 of the A12 at Cuckoo Farm.

The chain already runs three restaurants in Stanway, Colchester’s Cowdray Avenue and in the High Street.

McDonald’s this week confirmed while it does not have an exact opening date for the restaurant, it is expected to be open by summer 2013.

Spot on,,, collection of cars scattered all around different car parks throwing wrappers and cups wherever they park up. Perhaps a covenant with the council for Mc d's to be responsible for the litter within a 400 yard radius, obviously not including the A12.

Not a great lover of McDonalds but they, or any other food retailer for that matter are not responsible for dropping the litter. That rests firmly in the hands of those too lazy to find a bin.

Any litter that is collected should incur a small fine ie 5p not a lot but would be enough to get companies to send out staff for 5mins at the end of a shift and do a quick litter sweep, for example fish n chicken at St. John's, mcd's high st and sub way

I believe that McDs do organise litter picks on a regular basis.
.
This is more than most fast foods outlets offer.
.
The quality of McDs food and drinks does not seem to me to be the same as it was years ago, but then maybe I was hungrier and working harder then? Just maybe the ingredients are not the same for some reason?
.
I wonder if the cost of feeding at McDs is less than the cheapest cost of providing a meal at home? Some of us can make a good, nourishing meal out of almost nothing, but it's a vanishing art! I can see that for a lone ranger, fending for themself, a quick fix of a burger with a bit of meat and a bit of greenery with a tomato might be appealing. They are benefiting from the tiredness and maybe laziness of workers who are beyond worrying about content and nutrition, not to mention variety.

We need a good old burger king/KFC for a change!

My family don't live out of fast food takeaways and I love cooking! My children will eat all kinds of Fruits and vegetables but sometimes we need a bit of indulgence! Haha

Anybody who feeds their kids on this more than once in a while is really not setting them up well for future life. It doesn´t take that long to make burgers at home, and they will be far tastier.

Kids need to know how to cook at least a few basics, so that when they are launched into the adult world, they can surivive without existing just on fast food and takeaways. The trouble is that lots of parents live on ready meals and oven chips, so what hope do their kids have?

But the harsh reality is that places like McDonalds, KFC, Burger King are the ones doing well.

Litter is an issue from all of them. My own solution would be to have a deposit on the packaging, 20p say. Take the packaging back, you get the money back. But of course none of these companies wants all that stuff coming back to their doors.

I see that KFC is rearing its ugly head in the above posts.
.
This is another product that is less than mouth-watering. Years ago it did taste very good, something unusual to eat when pushed for time and maybe when travelling by car.
.
Nowadays the chicken is slimy and the crumbed exterior is dry, nearly tasteless and there does not seem to be a hint of spice, just a burning sensation on the tongue. When the chicken is drier, apparently it is stringy because it's cut in a peculiar way. Once or twice was enough, and that's only because I looked after two young children who actually wanted KFC. I didn't encourage them, and have vowed to go out of my way to avoid KFC when we're out together.
.
Real Southern Fried Chicken prepared with love of food is quite something, but even then, not a healthy choice.
.
I do however repeat what I said before - there are people who work hard on low wages and fall into these places for a quick fix when they're too tired to shop, prepare and cook. Sometimes they are living in rooms and don't have much in the way of food preparation areas. Would easy-access salad bars be the answer? no! It's not something that appeals instantly to the taste-buds of an exhausted worker or mum.
.
They, and we, will pay with NHS bills in the future, no doubt. Meanwhile we plod on giving everyone the choice of how they live their lives, and who could wish for anything different?

On the KFC issue, take a look at how their chickens are treated and then go and feed it to your kids!

rhetoric, you are right that we will all pay for the obesity problem in the future - but then look at the furore over the "pasty tax". There is more money in fast food and processed food than fresh, that is the bottom line.

It does take time to prepare food from scratch. Salad bars would probably appeal to those who already do that, but a family that lives on chicken nuggets and McDonalds isn´t going to get very excited about them!

But I also think a lot of people only eat this stuff because they do not know how to make things from scratch. This is why I think cooking is something that should be taught a lot more at school. It takes away the fear factor.

Years ago there was nothing, after a night out, except fish & chips and even they closed at 10 pm. Coffee bars stayed open a little later, and if you were lucky you might be able to buy a curly cheese sandwich. We are oldies now, but my partner and I really enjoy a big mac, or burger king, or a bargain bucket from KFC, 'Cant beat it'.. Of course we do vary our diet, plenty of stews, roast beef, and veg etc.. Generally I think fast food outlets are brilliant, and the younger generation are soooo lucky.

Another take away chain that likes to add sugar and salt into it's food to appease and trap the tastes of the younger generation.
I like my shepherds pie and thats how it'll stay!

i would rather have a good KFC drive thru or Burger King or how about a Nando's & Prezzo's. Maybe Tenpin Bowling & Cineworld Cinema that would create some jobs for the people of colchester.

Your never going to keep everyone happy are you? I think it's good it creates jobs and currently having a job is an acheivement in it's self! I'd welcome more being built there if it creates more jobs for people.

I occasionally stop for a burger when out in the car or on the bike on business. I much prefer McDonalds to Burger King and have never yet tried KFC. So, it's a pity we have yet another McDonalds but you can be sure of good and clean service always. My second preference to McD is an M&S service station. Again, good quality products. You can keep your usual petrol station fare.

Keep Britain Tidy looked at litter in 10 cities over two days in the first attempt to discover which brand names were most commonly discarded.

Wrappers and cups from Mcdonald's meals make up the largest proportion of litter on Britain's streets, according to a new survey.
Fast food litter was second to cigarette ends in littering the country’s streets and 29 per cent of that was from McDonald’s restaurants, followed by boxes and cups from unbranded kebab and fast food shops. Greggs the bakers generated almost a fifth of the fast food litter, followed by Kentucky Fried Chicken, Subway and a number of coffee brands.
Keep Britain Tidy said fast food companies should be doing more to ensure that the country’s streets were tidier.

I agree that the litter is there because McDonald's is, but what would happen if McDs disappeared? Would there be a different kind of litter in another location emanating from whatever food supply source was situated there?
.
McDonalds do operate cleanups regularly, and obviously it won't be enough unless they are out there twice daily (or nightly), but in the end it's the lazy, dirty, litterlouts who cause the problem.
.
Nobody is in business to make a loss, or alternatively you can say, less of a profit. If enforcement is carried out somehow to make a firm clean up day and night, then consumers are going to pay for it, it's that simple. A burger may be an occasional treat for most, but for some it's all they get in the way of even minimally edible/nourishing food. Sad, but true. It is currently affordable to most.
.
Might be a help if instead of "tutting", that rare person who is on foot in the area picks up and tidies away some of the litter? How about taking a large bag on walks, and maybe a stick? Oh dear, I can see most recoiling in horror, but it would make a difference. I've done it myself in a residential area passed through by many primary and secondary school children and find that when it's regularly kept clear the litter dropping decreases also, but if I turn my back for a long time or am away from home, I return to find the litter increases dramatically - in other words if there's something lying on the grass verge already, today's children see no problem in adding to it. If the grass verge is tidy, they do at least hesitate and often take the litter home (or elsewhere?). Sadly, many of them drop whole packets of sandwiches on the way to school, by the way. Obviously don't like what they are given free by their parents!

Firstly, the litter is not the fault of McDonalds but the scum bags who are too lazy to use the numerous bins provided. Rather munch like smokers who are too lazy to use an ashtray, so use the streets.

Secondly, if there wasn't the demand they wouldn't be building it.

Thirdly, think of the jobs that it will created.

If you build it, they will eat it. It's the same worldwide so move on people.
