Consultant backs Gazette's anti-knife campaign

A CONSULTANT in Colchester General Hospital’s emergency department has added his support to the Gazette’s anti-knife campaign.
Mr Kazim Mirza is the longest-serving consultant in Colchester’s A and E department.
During his career, he has seen it all but the experienced medic said he finds knife crime “scary”.
Mr Mirza said: “It is scary to think people are mad enough to use a knife.
“They have no fear at all. They don’t think of the outcome.
“A knife injury can ruin someone’s life. They can be left in a wheelchair, with a facial injury or it can even be fatal.
“There can be horrendous consequences. A mother may lose her son but the perpetrators doesn’t think about the hurt they have caused.
“When they injure or kill, it is not just the victim they have hurt; it is their family, their spouse, their children. There is a bigger picture.”

This campaign shows just how out of touch people are about knife crime. If we are not prepared to discipline children any more nor provide proper policing on our streets, things will get worse and worse. Of course, the do-gooders have brought this down on us all. Moral values have declined as a result. The drive to secularism and materialism has given us a society that is broken. The best bet is for decent people to stay well clear of trouble and to let the low-life do their worst.

I wonder if it might be time for the police to take a more proactive role by introducing a high profile stop and search regime in the town.
There does seem to be ample evidence that something is needed to persuade those carrying blades that it is unacceptable behaviour.
There's not much point in being sorry after the event.

Oh Checkout. How naive you are. Wake up! Smell the coffee!

Interesting response Sdapeze but ranting about a breakdown in moral values will not produce any lessening of the threat.
I may be naive but my point may be far more productive than bleating about abstract concepts.
Beating the breast or the gums about a broken society is rarely effective.
