Consultant backs Gazette's anti-knife campaign
11:38am Tuesday 2nd October 2012 in News
A CONSULTANT in Colchester General Hospital’s emergency department has added his support to the Gazette’s anti-knife campaign.
Mr Kazim Mirza is the longest-serving consultant in Colchester’s A and E department.
During his career, he has seen it all but the experienced medic said he finds knife crime “scary”.
Mr Mirza said: “It is scary to think people are mad enough to use a knife.
“They have no fear at all. They don’t think of the outcome.
“A knife injury can ruin someone’s life. They can be left in a wheelchair, with a facial injury or it can even be fatal.
“There can be horrendous consequences. A mother may lose her son but the perpetrators doesn’t think about the hurt they have caused.
“When they injure or kill, it is not just the victim they have hurt; it is their family, their spouse, their children. There is a bigger picture.”

There does seem to be ample evidence that something is needed to persuade those carrying blades that it is unacceptable behaviour.
There's not much point in being sorry after the event.

I may be naive but my point may be far more productive than bleating about abstract concepts.
Beating the breast or the gums about a broken society is rarely effective.
