Cable thieves cut phone lines to 1,000 properties

A COMMUNITY is in chaos after cable thieves severed phone and internet lines.

About 1,000 properties in Elmstead Market have been affected by the 288 reported faults.

Schools have lost phone lines and several businesses have been hit by a massive drop in trade.

BT engineers are working to repair the lines following the thefts, which took place on Thursday night, but they will not be completed until at least tomorrow.
