Council guidelines to tackle air pollution

DEVELOPMENTS proposed for areas with poor air quality will have to tackle environmental issues to get the green light from councillors.
Colchester Council has adopted new guidance which will be a material planning consideration for any developments in air quality management areas (AQMAs).
Plans must not make air quality worse in these areas and where possible seek to improve it.
Ways to offset air pollution caused by new developments could include a contribution to the council’s Air Quality Action Plan, new or improved traffic management measures or road infrastructure, improved public transport, pedestrian and cycle routes, travel plans or secure cycle parking.
