Gazette to launch anti-knife crime campaign
9:10am Sunday 30th September 2012 in News
LIVES NOT KNIVES is the name of a campaign being launched in your new-look Gazette tomorrow.
And its aim is to encourage people to take heed of that message and think twice before carrying a knife.
Cat Barrie, acting chief inspector for Tendring, said: “Maybe they feel they have got to defend themselves and scare someone off but all of a sudden there is that one lunge and it is too
late.
“I don’t know if it has become more sensationalised but jail is not a nice place to live. "And it is not just a sentence, it is what happens after.
“You have a criminal record, might not be able to get a job and cannot travel to other countries.
“I just don’t think they stop to realise how serious it is.
“Now it seems to have escalated to a degree where people think they have to carry weapons. We need to educate people not to carry a weapon.”
