In today's Gazette: Colchester United have sacked manager John Ward after a string of poor results.

Ward, who has been manager for two years, has been given the boot after a nine-game winless start has seen hundreds of fans boycott the club.

* Rail bosses have promised Colchester rail users a smoother ride next year.

Network Rail and Greater Anglia vowed to reduce engineering works over Christmas and at weekends next year following a succession of disruptions in recent years.

* Poultry farmer Gavin HIndle has been fined £200 for riding an electric scooter without insurance - because he had removed the pedals.

* War veteran Bob Willis, 95, was pushed aside by a thief who stole hundreds of pounds from his home.
