Callous burglar targets war veteran
5:05pm Monday 24th September 2012 in News
A CALLOUS burglar pushed a 94-year-old war veteran during a raid on his home in Clacton.
The veteran opened the door of his flat in Holland Road to the young thief at 6am this morning.
The thief, who had claimed to be collecting money for a charity, pushed past him before snatching £500 and running off.
Investigating officer, Det Con Daniel Jefferies, said: "We believe this burglar had called round to the property the previous week, collecting charity sponsorship money.
“He obviously got a glimpse of the inside and decided to return to commit crime.
“We would urge people to take a look at the description and contact us if they believe they recognise him.”
The thief is described as white, is in his late teens or early 20s, of slim build, about 5ft 10ins tall. He speaks with a local accent and wore a grey hooded top.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call detectives at Clacton police station on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
