U's manager cuts ribbon at Clacton charity shop
3:00pm Thursday 20th September 2012 in News By James Dwan
COLCHESTER United manager John Ward was the guest of honour when a new charity shop opened in Clacton on Wednesday.
The new Sense shop, at the junction of High Street and Station Road, is raising money for the charity’s work with deaf and blind people.
The U’s boss was invited down to cut a ribbon at the opening ceremony.
He said: “It’s an excellent charity. I’ve been aware of it for a long time and I have had involvement with it at other clubs.
“When the club was asked to come down to open the shop, I was delighted. It’s a superb place.
“Our club is not just about Colchester, we have a lot of support from this part of the world.
“The club’s staff and players do a lot of work out and about in the community and we’re happy to support the new shop.
“I hope it goes well.”
Kate Timperley, from Sense, said the event had been well attended and thanked Mr Ward for his support.
