New facilities at Wivenhoe sports ground
4:01pm Tuesday 18th September 2012 in News By Will Lodge
DISABLED people will be able to use a Wivenhoe sports centre for the first time when new facilities are opened this weekend.
A new toilet block replacing a temporary building has been installed at the Broad Lane Sports Ground.
Colchester mayor Christopher Arnold will officially open the new building during a ceremony on Saturday morning.
The £40,000 project has been funded by grants from Essex and Colchester councils.
Andrew Nightingale, chairman of the Wivenhoe & District Sporting Facilities Trust which runs the site, said: “This is a very important milestone for the trust and all of the clubs that make their home at Broad Lane.
“The trustees are very grateful for the foresight, commitment and enthusiasm of everyone who helped deliver the project. It has been a long, difficult road but we’ve kept our word and now have a much needed facility.”
