Several knives found at murder scene but not the one used to kill a teenage student

POLICE are searching for the knife used to kill Jay Whiston.

Detectives revealed they have uncovered a number of knives from the area around Marlowe Way, Colchester, where the 17-year-old from Aster Close, Clacton, was stabbed to death at a party.

But they do not believe any of them to be the one which killed him.

The shocking revelation has led to increased concerns about the number of young people who were carrying knives at the time and go out armed generally.

Five men, three aged 17 and two aged 18 all from Colchester, have been released on bail after being arrested on suspicion of murder.

Officers still need to speak to more of the people at the party to try and piece together the events which led to the tragic events on Saturday.

Det Chief Insp Simon Parkes said: “Many of the teenagers have given accounts of what happened on that Saturday night.

“These boys and girls are clearly key witnesses, crucial to our investigation.

“We have found that Facebook and Twitter have played a significant part in events leading up to and after this murder.

“We have arrested five people and cannot rule out arresting others.

“We are very much dependant on those who attended the party and those who subsequently heard about what happened coming forward.”

Anyone with information in connection with this death is urged to contact detectives at Colchester’s Major Investigation Team on 01245 452882, e-mail them on SCDappeals@essex.pnn.police.uk or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
