Good Food Guide names Sun Inn, Dedham, Essex’s best restaurant

Fine dining – the Sun Inn has been highly marked in the Good Food Guide 2013
THE Sun Inn, in Dedham, is Essex’s best restaurant, according to the Good Food Guide 2013.
The score of three stars means it offers good cooking, a good display of technical skills and high quality ingredients.
Piers Baker, who bought the Sun Inn in 2003, said the highly regarded review was very hard to come by.
He said: “We found out how we’d done when the book was published. We serve between 1,000 and 1,500 customers a week and have no idea who the inspectors were so we had got to be on our game all the time.”
When Mr Baker took over the restaurant, he changed the menu to only include food which is in season.
He added: “It’s about getting a good balance between a good pub and fine dining.”
Celebrity diners have included England footballer Frank Lampard and former Conservative cabinet minister Michael Portillo.
