Dedham restaurant voted best in Essex

Dedham restaurant voted best in Essex. Dedham restaurant voted best in Essex.

A DEDHAM restaurant is the best in the county, according to a highly regarded food guide.

The Sun Inn, in High Street, Dedham, was given the accolade by the 2013 Good Food Guide, published on September 3.

It also came in the top ten best restaurants in Suffolk, out of 50 entries.

Piers Baker, who bought the Sun Inn in 2003, said the highly regarded review was very hard to come by.

“We are not told anything about it, so we found out how we have done when the book was published,” he said.

“We’re maybe serving between 1,000 and 1,500 customers a week and we have no idea who the inspectors are, so we have got to be on our game all the time.”

When Mr Baker took over the restaurant he immediately changed the menu to include only food which is in season.

He added: “It’s about getting a good balance between a good pub and fine dining.”

The restaurant regularly attracts England footballer Frank Lampard, while staff have also served former Conservative cabinet minister Michael Portillo.

Its score of three means good cooking, a good display of technical skills and using high quality ingredients.

There is no evidence that it is Frank Lampards favourite Essex restaurant. He just happens to go there as his dad lives in the village! However, great achievment to The Sun anyhow!

No you are all wrong, the Essex Rose has excellent lunches with a good variety of meals on the menu, and superb afternoon Cream Teas, and is Frank Lampard's favorite tearoom in Essex, I know because I have seen him there on several occasions, and the selection of Jams is awesome !!

I would be very disappointed if the jams were not awesome, the Essex Rose belongs to Wilkins.
