A TODDLER has been taken to hospital with a serious head injury after a car and a bread lorry collided.

The 15-month-old girl was cut free from the smash by fire crews from Coggeshall, Braintree and Colchester.

She was taken to Royal London Whitechapel by East of England Ambulance crews.

A second child, aged three, who was not trapped, was also treated at the scene and taken to the same hospital.

The lorry driver and the adult male car driver suffered minor injuries.

Emergency services were called to the scene, at Chestnuts, in Coggeshall Road, Earls Colne, at about 7.20pm.

First responders were initially sent to the scene and an RAF helicopter was requested but was stood down.
