Husband avoids immediate jail sentence after killing wife in car crash

A HUSBAND has walked free from court for killing his wife in an A12 accident.
Simon Aylott slammed into the back of a lorry on the way back from a family holiday, injuring all five people in his car and causing the death of his wife Rachel.
Chelmsford Crown Court heard on Friday the “only possible reason” for the accident was that he fell asleep at the wheel.
Rachel Aylott, 38, was sitting in the middle of the back seat when the accident took place at around 10am on March 30 last year.
She suffered serious injuries and died at the scene. Everyone else in the car - all family members - suffered injuries and are still suffering the effects of the tragedy.
Aylott, 34, of Bromley Road, Frating admitted causing death by careless driving and was jailed for nine months, suspended for two years.
He was also given two years' supervision, banned from driving for two years, and told to take an extended driving test.

Right decision. He should have never gone to prison. He done what we all have done and that is drive when tired. The poor man has been through enough hell already.

The right decision for a Court for once but may the driver suffer for what he has done! He knew he was tired but thought he could fight it, wrong! Too many people I know or know of, have had accidents or died as a result of driving whilst tired, when will people learn? Huh? I'm a professional driver and pride myself of either pulling over when that fateful feeling comes on, or I book the night off work if I haven't got enough sleep during the day. YOU CANNOT FIGHT IT, STOP KILLING PEOPLE! How about the truck he hit... How was the driver? Oh no mention of him/her. People who think they're better than everyone else should also foot the bill for the recovery & clear up operation to make them think twice next time.

Just re read sorry got wrong about professional driving, but still u dont know the full story, and when u say he thinks hes better than anyone, urwrong far from it, actually he was seriously injured aswell and he almost didn't make it, everyone has been thru hell from this 'accident' he wasn't drinking or or drugs and was insured and had a full license, accidents happen I'm afraid he worked locally so he never drove long journeys. So no he never made a habit of driving whilst tired!!

Too right and thank god it was no one else's family member he killed, OK big sympathies for the fact he has lost his beloved wife, but as I have argued many times someone who drives whilst unfit weather it be through tiredness or the fact they have a stinking cold or whatever is no better than a drunk driver after all the consequences can be the same.

firstly it was not proven that he fell asleep, thats what they think might of happened and if she was wearing her seatbelt she would be alive now!!!

My thoughts go out to Rachel's family who have never had a apologie to this day. The family have suffered a great deal since the accident if you feel tired you pull over like he was asked to by his wife you don't carry on ending up smashing into a lorry at 70mph . And by the way it was proven that he fell asleep !!! Read the signs PLEASE PULL OVER IF YOU FEEL TIRED !!
