Dovercourt man arrested after horror smash on the A14

A DOVERCOURT man has been arrested after a horror smash on the A14.

The man, 50, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

He has now been bailed until October 16.

A woman was killed, while a man in his 60s and teenage boy were initially left with life-threatening injuries in the crash.

But the teenage has since died in hospital.

The crash involved two lorries and a car, and happened near Trimley St Mary on Monday afternoon.

Both carriageways had to be closed.

The woman, in her 50s, was driving a Fiat Punto on the A14. The man and teenager were passengers in the car.

Two ambulances, three rapid response cars and the East Anglian Air Ambulance rushed to the scene.

An ambulance spokesman said: “Sadly, on our arrival the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

"A man received serious injuries and has been taken to Ipswich Hospital for further care. A teenage boy also received serious injuries and has been flown to a specialist trauma centre at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridgeshire."

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash. Anyone with information should contact the Suffolk Police serious collision investigation team on 101.
