Burglar left empty-handed after being bitten by dog
7:05pm Monday 20th August 2012 in News By Will Lodge
A WOULD-BE burglar got away empty-handed when he was bitten by a dog.
A woman was alerted to the break-in at her home in North Road, Great Clacton, when she heard her dog making a commotion downstairs.
She went to investigate only to see the leg of a man being bitten by her pet.
The man then fled the house.
Investigating officer Det Con Jo Mangham said: “At the time of the incident the occupant heard the man state he was bleeding. I am appealing for anyone who knows of a man with a recent bite to his leg area to contact us.”
The incident happened at 9pm on Saturday, and nothing was taken in the raid.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Det Con Mangham at Clacton police station on 101, or Crimestoppers
anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The police cannot act if the attack is on private property, tell the delivery driver to shove it.
With luck the piece of scum will get septacemia.

Im being sued by a delivery driver who decided to enter my house so as to deliver a parcel despite warning notices and a post box situated on the outside of the property and a sign on the gate saying about a dog being on the premises...... when i explained this to the insurance people i was told that a dog now has to be trained and certificated , my little terrier was just doing what they do...protecting its family.

Put a postbox in a safe place and fit a cordless door bell to post box with a note on it saying 'Dogs may be running loose, please ring bell and wait'.
That's what I have done.
I still get the odd moron that thinks it doesn't apply to them, so they deserve to be bitten ( or slobbered on as is my dogs inclination).
Ok, it didn't stop the idiot who thought he could try to jemmy my shed open at 2 in the morning, bet he was suprised when confronted by two rather loud dogs.
Hope his Mum enjoyed washing the anti - climb paint off his clothes that he managed to cover himself in when taking the short cut out my garden over the 6 foot fences.

As for the delivery driver, well, if he was attacked actually inside the house, he might find it hard to win a case. Why would he be inside the house? Unless it is a porch, maybe.
If he was attacked in the garden or driveway, then he could have a better case. The idea of a bell at the entrance to the property is a good one.
I remember dogs as an occupational hazard back in my days as a kid delivering the Gazette. Some would mutilate the paper so badly each day, you wondered why they continued to get it delivered. I think some dogs only hated the postman more than the paper-boy!
