Comic's Brig Society coming to Clacton
6:39pm Friday 27th July 2012 in News
STAND-UP Marcus Brigstocke is making a trip to the seaside later this year.
Tickets are now on sale and likely to go quickly for the popular television and radio comedian who appears at the West Cliff Theatre in Clacton in November.
The award-winning funnyman is a firm favourite with comedy fans and his new show promises to be as quick-witted as his much loved catalogue of work.
Called the Brig Society, it’s being performed at this year’s Edinburgh Festival, and promises, according to Marcus, to tackle the trivialities and complexities of life with joyful silliness and vengeful ire.
He says: “It’s an invitation to re-engineer all the crappy systems that don't help us to be happy, live well, listen to good music, dance and eat whatever cheese we want to eat.”
Marcus’s talent was first spotted in 1996 when he won the BBC New Comedian Award at the Edinburgh Festival.
Today he’s one of the country’s most popular stand-ups.
Well known for such TV shows like Have I Got News For You, QI, Argumental and I’ve Never Seen Star Wars, those not familiar with his face, may instead recognise his voice from BBC Radio 4, which has become a bit of a second home for the comic.
He has written and recorded a number of series for the station, including the Museum of Everything and Giles Wemmbley-Hogg Goes Off, and he has been on Just A Minute, Newsquiz and the Today Programme, to name a few.
One of his most notable Radio 4 slots is the monologue on comedy news programme the Now Show, where he again get things off his chest.
Marcus has also dipped his toe into the world of films, performing in Richard Curtis’ Love Actually, Nick Moran’s Telstar and Beyond the Sea, with Kevin Spacey.
He’s due to appear at the West Cliff in Tower Road, Clacton, on November 8 as part of a national tour.
With tickets, priced £15, likely to sell out quickly, fans can either go online at www.westcliffclacton.org or call the box office on 01255 474000.
