Tenants' artwork on public display

AN EXHIBITION of artwork by council tenants will go on show from this weekend.

Colchester Borough Homes asked tenants, leaseholders and children in their properties to submit art for their 2013 calendar, with the theme No Place Like Home.

The winners will be revealed at a private viewing on Monday July 16 at the Les Livres Gallery within Colchester Library.

Mell Robinson, resident involvement and enabling team leader said: “We received original artwork in watercolour, pencil and ceramics, and we also had poems and a little book.

“It was very hard to judge such a great range of submissions but the winners are very strong and will make super images for our calendar.”

The exhibition is open to the public from Sunday until Saturday August 11, and is available to view whenever the library is open.

Art at the library, pity we haven't got an art gallery to put it in.

Firsts*ite can't have art from council tenants in it. My goodness - we didn't waste £28m on a community facility to put up art by Colchester residents. You must be insane. We need high brow art that nobody understands or wants to see in the golden turd...

No room for art in the First Site at the mo as there is a pile of sand in there. Apparently it's an atomised plane.

That's art???

This is good initiative and I hope Colchester Borough Homes will invest proceeds from the sale of the calendars.
