9:40am Saturday 7th July 2012 in News
SEVERAL Essex villages are gearing up to celebrate their watery heritage this weekend.
Regattas are being held in Brightlingsea, Rowhedge, Manningtree and Heybridge beginning today.
Brightlingsea's event brings together for the first time its annual boat show and regatta over both days of the weekend, with half a mile of stalls and activities along the waterfront creating a lively buzz for events on the water. The regatta runs from 10am-5pm each day.
Sails arrive at Rowhedge on the high tide at 2pm today with festivities such as a tug of war taking place between noon and midnight.
Races start at 1.30pm at Manningtree today with fireworks rounding off the day at 9.30pm, while beach sports begin at 10.30am tomorrow.
Festivities begin at 11am today in Heybridge with dinghy and rowing races kicking off as the tide rises early afternoon. Traditional events such as the greasy pole are also being held.
