IN TODAY'S GAZETTE: ARMY regiments based in Colchester look set to escape the Ministry of Defence cuts.

Up to 50 UK regiemnts are expected to be merged or disbanded under Government plans but it is thought 2 and 3 battalions, the Parachute Regiment, will remain in tact.
