Colchester Academy development given go-ahead

PLANS for a £15million school development have been given the green light.

Colchester Council’s planning committee have given plans to redevelop parts of Colchester Academy, in Hawthorn Avenue, Greenstead the thumbs up.

They accepted planning inspectors’ recommendation for approval at a meeting on Thursday.

An L-shaped building block will replace the current teaching block and the sports centre will be redeveloped.

New facilities including an IT suite, dining hall, theatre and swimming pool, are also included in the plans.

Work on the £15.2 million complex is expected to being in early July to be completed by Christmas 2013.
