Car on fire in Colchester

A DRIVER miraculously escaped from his car after it went up in flames.

Firefighters were called to Halstead Road, Colchester, at 8.36pm last night.

Neighbouring residents said smoke had started to erupt from the bonnet so the driver pulled over and got out before the car went up in flames.

Residents spoke of hearing sounds like fireworks as parts of the car exploded.
