Calls have been made to demand a council to ensure roads are improved before they can approve new housing developments.

Witham town councillors unanimously approved the motion last week following widespread anger at plans for new homes in Blunts Hall Road.

The plan for 50 homes will include Teign Drive, currently a quiet cul-de-sac, being turned into a busy access road to the new estate.

The motion asks Braintree Council and Essex County Council to “analyse the impact of the dwellings on the road network and implement solutions before housing allocations are brought forward for development.”
