Two mile oil slick causes A12 traffic woes near Colchester

A TWO MILE oil leak caused delays on the A12 from 4pm this afternoon.

A broken down HGV leaked oil all the way from junction 28 near the Weston Homes Community Stadium to junction 29 on the southbound carriageway.

Police put a rolling road block in place to help the flow of traffic while an incident unit from the Highways Agency attempted to combat the oil slick.

I could be wrong, but I think by definition an oil 'slick' can only be on water.

An oil spill at sea becomes a slick when it mixes with the water. Perhaps it was raining!
