Drivers told to stay off the roads

MOTORISTS have been warned not to use their vehicles unless necessary on Sunday.

Freezing rain and snow which fell overnight are making driving hazardous across Essex.

Police have told drivers if they must use their cars to clear their windows, have lights on, drive within the speed limit and slow down more if necessary.

Police told drivers to clear their windows, they should have told the idiot that driving down Mill Road yesterday with a frozen screen, yes you in the Mercedes, never about when you need them.

In response to Colonel Kurtz's comment at 10 am, "A light dusting of snow. Everyone PANIC!"

My reading of the article is that on behalf of the police it urges caution rather than prompting panic.

The point of concern is not the "light dusting of snow" but rather the snow AND "Freezing rain".

Drivers are "warned not to use their vehicles unless necessary on Sunday". Surely wise people will avoid driving unless there is no other way to undertake an essential journey.

I presume those involved in collisions and accidents in Essex will regret having journeyed unless their trip was vital.

I am glad that I don't need to drive today and so can leave the roads clearer for those who do need to travel so than can do so as safely as possible.

By not driving there is also less chance of contact, with a panicking person or someone who has disregarded the reality of the situation. Also my car is less likely to be damaged and me to face the hazard and inconvenience of an accident, including unnecessarily higher future insurance premiums!

I wish all travelleres joy and peace, especially those from the Emergency Services.

Anyone who wants to drive where freezing rain has fallen is either unaware of its consequences or plain foolhardy.
