THE restaurant at Debenhams in Colchester has been relaunched in the first phase of a multi-million pound revamp of the store, which will create 50 jobs.

There is also a bigger baby change facility and new toilets for disabled customers at the store, in Culver Street West.

Manager, Andrew Ward, said: “This is the first milestone in the modernisation and we can’t wait for customers to see the other changes being made over the next few months.”

Other improvements will include a 19-cubicle women’s changing room, new flooring and lighting.

Doesn't look fantastic anyway, with bowls of raw peppers arrayed along the counter. Not a lot of effort put in that direction. Colour yes, culinary genius no.
.
There would need to be a very serious upgrading on the previous facilities, as far as I remember my two visits there.
.
Probably the best one can hope from mass catering in this sort of uncaring environment is for the cutlery and trays to be clean and unworn, and just maybe the staff to smile a little.
.
The Tea Rose Cafe sounds nice, must give it a try, soon.
.
When it comes to indulging in a meal out, it's always great to go somewhere where the customer's choice matters, NOT some "initiative" to sell the most of a certain dish on a specified day, at a "knock-down" price that is probably nothing of the sort. I bet the Tea Rose doesn't "run out" of the most basic items just because the staff want to clear up and go home!
.
Viva private enterprise!!
