Braintree: Tesco calm shoppers after rat sighting

Tesco calm shoppers after rat sighting Tesco calm shoppers after rat sighting

Tesco have moved to reassure customers they do not have a rodent problem after a customer spotted a rat in the food aisles of a store.

Emma Aldridge, 25, of Templar Road, Braintree, saw the rat running through the Marks Farm store in Braintree.

She said: “I was right inside the store doing my shop and I saw it on the floor down the aisle where the eggs were.

“I told the management and they just said they were dealing with it.

“How can they stay open and not even tell customers they’ve got a problem? It ended up running along right next to all the fresh bread.”

A Tesco spokesman said: “Regular checks take place and we can confirm there are no problems at this store.

“We think the rat ran into the store from the outside. The authorities were alerted and they were happy for the store to stay open.

Other shoppers were unconcerned by the sighting.

Joanne Hollands said: “What do you expect? It's built on what was once a farm in open country, it’s wildlife.”

This is a typical Tesco cover up. A few years ago I filled my car up with diesel at Tesco highwoods and found out after my mechanic stripped the car down that the diesel supplied by Tesco was badly contaminated with water. I told Tesco by contacting their head office but they did nothing until I contacted trading standards who went to the site, took samples and closed them down.Even then Tesco continued to deny anything was wrong with their diesel and it was at this point that I contacted the Gazette who then made public what was wrong.Tesco had continued to sell diesel until being shut down and the AA were towing away broken down cars from all over Highwoods.Tesco are arrogant bullies who do not give a **** about their customers.I hade to threaten tesco with court action to get the money for my repair bills. Also try putting "Tesco rat" into your search engine and you will find that this is not the first case of vermin inside one of their stores.Do not trust Tesco they are a ruthless company.

I think you'll find many supermarkets have had rat and mouse problems. Even Sainsburys have had fines on a number of occassions in the past year or so, just google and find them all, including all the other supermarkets. Tesco is not alone in this problem and neither are many households , shops and other places of business.

There is a product on the market called The Big Cheese Sonic Mouse and Rat Repellent. Eliminates unwanted rodents safely and humanely. Produces over 100db of ultrasound at constantly changing frequencies . Cost £15.49 at Tesco direct plus 15 Clubcard Points

I wonder if Joanne Hollands were to find a few rats running around in her kitchen and nibbling on her food would she be so tolerant? Me thinks not, although I agree it must be a nightmare for these big food stores to remain rat free.

You might not understand the relevance of inflation, but when it comes to anything to do with Tesco, you really know your stuff. And a comment placed with great wit, it certainly made me smile. Thank-you.

Agreed, Roger is witty and well informed. The only problem with the Big Cheese sonic product is that it does not work. Robert Dyas gave me the money back. Whether the shysters at Tesco will give the money back remains to be seen.

Morrisons X 2,
Icelands
Tescos plus various express,
lidles,
sainsburys,
somerfields,
co op @ 5 ways.

Clacton seems to do very well out of main named food stores,
but which do I use?

Well I have family that work in the smaller Morissons in waterglade park, near town centre,
and over the years have heard tales of "wildlife" that surround the rear loading bays,
so, can they manage to hide in boxed goods that are wheeled inside the store??
not for me to say!!
but I think that as most stores leave food outside, for disposal, you can guess that most animals will chance foraging & eating it.

Morissons always seems more friendly,
Tescos always seems money/work directed,
Iceland seems at times to be "managing"
Lidles seems to be a bit shambolic at times,
the Co op I hardly ever use, as when I have, the staff seemed "distracted"
Sainsburys, think I`ve been in once!
Somerfields @ Gt Clacton.....Its there I`m told, but the wife has used It.

Morissons have good value daily deals,
If you need them.
Tescos Is ALWAYS open,
so what do you need, they have It!

Like most towns, we have many smaller supermarket shops harking back to my childhood with typical Victor Value type stores,
So, Boris,
do you need to use Tescos where you are?

To assume that Boris' decision to 'avoid Tesco' is based on one story, seems a bit 'blinkered' to me (think he's said it's down to Maggie's best mate Porter, and the worst vote rigging scandal in post-war history). But unlike Yendor's final observation on Boris, I really cannot say 'that is not usual from this source.' Because it most certainly is!

Winston is right, my main objection to Tesco is its connection to the erstwhile leader of Westminster council. I will not buy anything from Tesco till after Shirley Porter is dead.
I also object to Tesco's opening of mini-supermarkets in every neighbourhood so as to drive independent shops out of business.
I would not offer advice to rats. If they want to eat Lady Porter's products, that would seem no more than appropriate.
