Tesco have moved to reassure customers they do not have a rodent problem after a customer spotted a rat in the food aisles of a store.
Emma Aldridge, 25, of Templar Road, Braintree, saw the rat running through the Marks Farm store in Braintree.
She said: “I was right inside the store doing my shop and I saw it on the floor down the aisle where the eggs were.
“I told the management and they just said they were dealing with it.
“How can they stay open and not even tell customers they’ve got a problem? It ended up running along right next to all the fresh bread.”
A Tesco spokesman said: “Regular checks take place and we can confirm there are no problems at this store.
“We think the rat ran into the store from the outside. The authorities were alerted and they were happy for the store to stay open.
Other shoppers were unconcerned by the sighting.
Joanne Hollands said: “What do you expect? It's built on what was once a farm in open country, it’s wildlife.”

There is a product on the market called The Big Cheese Sonic Mouse and Rat Repellent. Eliminates unwanted rodents safely and humanely. Produces over 100db of ultrasound at constantly changing frequencies . Cost £15.49 at Tesco direct plus 15 Clubcard Points

Avoid Tesco ?
Are you suggesting any other supermarket chain is different ?
Seems a blinkered view just based on one story to me but that is not usual from this source.

Icelands
Tescos plus various express,
lidles,
sainsburys,
somerfields,
co op @ 5 ways.
Clacton seems to do very well out of main named food stores,
but which do I use?
Well I have family that work in the smaller Morissons in waterglade park, near town centre,
and over the years have heard tales of "wildlife" that surround the rear loading bays,
so, can they manage to hide in boxed goods that are wheeled inside the store??
not for me to say!!
but I think that as most stores leave food outside, for disposal, you can guess that most animals will chance foraging & eating it.
Morissons always seems more friendly,
Tescos always seems money/work directed,
Iceland seems at times to be "managing"
Lidles seems to be a bit shambolic at times,
the Co op I hardly ever use, as when I have, the staff seemed "distracted"
Sainsburys, think I`ve been in once!
Somerfields @ Gt Clacton.....Its there I`m told, but the wife has used It.
Morissons have good value daily deals,
If you need them.
Tescos Is ALWAYS open,
so what do you need, they have It!
Like most towns, we have many smaller supermarket shops harking back to my childhood with typical Victor Value type stores,
So, Boris,
do you need to use Tescos where you are?

Morrison’s is better quality especially the cheep stuff, but Tesco however isn’t cheaper and the cheap stuff is disgusting, but I find it cheaper to use the green grosser and butchers in combination with M&S, if you want to eat better quality food.

Rats have similar nutrients to pork and chicken, but less calories. If you want to eat them, please make sure that they are well cooked to avoid the problem of getting diarrhoea.
