A FREE lecture on maths and the Olympics is being held at Essex University.
Professor John Barrow, from Cambridge University, will explore how maths can help competitors improve their performance.
Athletics, rowing and table tennis are some of the sports he will speak about, and investigate the unusual scoring systems some sports have developed.
The event is part of the annual Winsten Day organised in honour of respected probability theorist Professor Christopher Winsten, a former member of the Department of Mathematical Sciences who died in 2005.
The lecture is at 5pm on Wednesday February 1 in the Ivor Crewe Lecture Hall.
