A EIGHT-year-old girl has been flown to hospital after being crushed by a car.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were called to School Road in Monkwick following reports of a school-run accident.

An ambulance spokesman said the girl had to be rescued after being trapped underneath a car.

The Essex Air Ambulance helicopter landed in the grounds of nearby Monkwick Junior School as she was being rescued.

She was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge with what were initially described as serious arm and pelvic injuries.
