A BUMPY road which has already had £130,000 of repairs needs resurfacing again.

The A120 at Coggeshall has suffered subsidence over the past four years, prompting drivers to liken its surface to a rollercoaster ride.

The Highways Agency has confirmed £70,000 of fresh overnight repairs will start in the next few weeks Plans to rip up the affected stretch and re-lay it from scratch were ditched three years ago, because of the estimated £900,000 cost, but a Highways Agency spokesman has said this decision was to be reviewed in the next few months.

He added: “We carried out investigations into the cause of the carriageway depressions on this section in 2006.

“These showed the road had originally been built above clay and to a thickness which was less than present-day standards.

“Both these factors have caused the depressions in the carriageway.

“Since then, we have resurfaced various sections to ensure the safety of the road and provide safe, smooth journeys.

“The latest resurfacing was carried out in October 2009 and further resurfacing will take place in the next few weeks.”

The last round of repairs cost £130,000 and was completed only last year.
