A BUDDING DJ is to showcase his talents by putting on a party for his pals.

Jake Smith, ten, is organising a youth disco for seven to 11-year-olds to show off his prowess behind the decks.

Jake, of Howards Croft, in Mile End, has Aspergers’ syndrome and suffered from fluid on the brain after being born prematurely at 26 weeks.

He first started DJing after developing an interest in stage lighting a few years ago.

His mum, Karen Smith, said: “He used to have hand-held LED toys, but as he got older, he wanted proper disco lights, so we bought one for him.

“He read all the manuals and the music came along after that.

“Now he saves up all his birthday money and pocket money to buy new equipment.”

Since then Jake, who goes under the name of Cosmix Disco, has put on a number of professional-standard parties for friends.

HIs typical playlist includes artists such as Chase and Status, Example, Nero, the Black Eyed Peas and Tinie Tempah as well as other chart and dance acts.

Jake has a separate blackout room for his equipment and gets up at 6.30am every day to rehearse before school.

Mrs Smith said: “I’m very proud of him.

“When he was a baby, we didn’t know if he was ever going to sit up.

“It’s amazing what he has achieved. He’s incredibly good for his age.

“When he goes to these parties, his dad and I are his roadies.

“People seem surprised at the equipment he has and his ability.

“They have said he is better than DJs they have hired.

“I think he’s an inspiration for other parents of children who are born early.”

Jake’s youth disco is being held at Maurice Rowson Hall, in Church Road, Gosfield, on December 10.

Tickets cost £2.50 each and are available by calling 01787 474863.
