A MUSIC and comedy party will raise funds for Colchester General Hospital’s stroke unit.

Colchester-based Blues Brother tribute band Committed to the Blues will perform at the Weston Homes Community Stadium on April 1.

The evening, organised by the Colchester Hospital Charity, also includes a two-course meal and local comedian Richard Whymark.

And giving a short speaks will be retired businessman John Purkiss, who suffered a stroke on Valentine’s Day 2008 while skiing in Canada and eventually spent 14 weeks at the stroke unit.

With the help of staff Mr Purkiss, of Station Road, Wakes Colne, made a good recovery and is now planning his next ski trip.

Money raised will go towards equipment such as specialist software for speech and language therapy, iPods and headphones for relaxation and a laptop.

The club has donated the room free of charge.

Tickets cost £25.
