Workmates of a man killed on a dangerous road are backing a campaign to lower the speed limit.

Stuart Argent was crossing the A120, near the Tey Road junction in Coggeshall, in August, when he was hit by a car.

The 25-year-old, of Myneer Park, Coggeshall, worked for Tesco in Marks Farm, Braintree, and hoped to become a manager within the company.

His colleagues are now supporting the Save Lives Not Time campaign, which calls for the speed limit to be cut to 40mph between Braintree and Marks Tey.

Campaigners also want the limit reduced to 30mph in the most dangerous spots along the A120, and an overtaking ban at certain points.

Customer services manager Emma Knowles said: “Because Stuart worked for us, there are a lot of people close to him and his family who work in the store.

“We definitely wanted to be part of the campaign and support it as much as we can.

“Hopefully our staff and customers will feel the need to join the petition.

“We will have it at the customer service desk with the posters, and encourage people to sign it.

“We do have people who come along that road, and it is quite a high-profile accident area, so it would be really good to bring it to the forefront of everyone’s minds.”
