CHART-TOPPING girlband the Saturdays are performing a fundraising gig in Colchester for families of soldiers serving in Afghanistan.

The Saturdays, who have had a series of Top Ten singles since forming three years ago, will be playing for families of 16 Air Assault Brigade at Colchester Garrison.

The five girls are helping launch the 2010 Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, which this year is aiming to provide help and support to the “Afghan generation” of the Armed Forces and their families.

The concert will include a parachute display from the legion’s extreme human flight team, Jump4Heroes.

They will land next to the site where a new personnel recovery centre for soldiers will be built in the town.

The concert, for the families of 16 Air Assault Brigade on operations in Afghanistan, will also feature video messages from personnel stationed in Afghanistan for the families of those watching.

The private concert will take place at 10.30am on October 28 at the physical training and recreation centre at Colchester Garrison.

The Royal British Legion has committed £25million to the Personnel Recovery Centres.
